Barbara Rockman is author of "Sting and Nest," winner of the New Mexico-Arizona Book Award and the National Federation of Press Women Book Prize. Her second collection, "to cleave," is published, 2019, by University of New Mexico Press. She teaches poetry and generative writing workshops in Santa Fe, NM at Santa Fe Community College, in community workshops, and at Esperanza Shelter for Battered Families, and with OutsideInArts with people living with mental illness. A graduate of the Vermont College of Fine Arts MFA in Writing Program, her Pushcart and Best of the Net nominated poems appear widely in journals and anthologies including Nimrod, Louisville Review, Cimarron, Thrush, Southern Humanities Review, Bellingham Review and Taos Journal of Art and Literature.
Loren Niemi began as a child fibber but soon decided that he was less interested in telling lies than in improving the truth.
He is an innovative storyteller creating, coaching/directing, performing, producing, teaching, and writing about stories that matter for audiences of all ages in urban and rural settings for over 40 years and was the 2016 recipient of the National Storytelling Network’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Storytelling in his life's work and he embraces a wide definition of storytelling - from the gossip and jokes we tell around the kitchen table, to organizational mission, values, and brand. He has participated in over 200 poetry and story slams since 1995 and has won 71 first, second, or third places and 2 grand slams, as well as being a member of the Minnesota team for the 1998 National Poetry Slam. He has done 32 Fringe Festivals in eight cities (16 of them at the Minnesota Fringe) as solo or ensemble storytelling performances since 1996.
He is a published author and poet. What Haunts Us (MoonFire Publishing) a collection of non-traditional “ghost” stories won a 2020 Midwest Book Awards for “Sci-Fi/ Horror /Fantasy / Paranormal” fiction. Other publications include two poetry chapbooks, Coyote Flies Coach (Sister Black Press) and Vote Coyote! (Austin Nash Studio), the award-winning The New Book of Plots and its companion Point of View and the Emotional Arc of Stories which he co-authored with Nancy Donoval (both from Parkhurst Brothers Publishers) focused on the structuring of oral and written narratives.
He co-authored with Elizabeth Ellis the critically acclaimed, Inviting the Wolf In: Thinking About Difficult Stories(August House Publishers) on the value and necessity of stories that are hard to hear and harder to tell.
